How is raw food different from kibble in terms of bacterial risk?Updated a month ago
All pet food carries some level of microbial risk — kibble has been subject to numerous Salmonella recalls over the years, and dry food can harbor mold and mycotoxins. Raw food is different in that it isn't heat-processed, so bacterial management relies on sourcing quality, testing protocols, and safe handling rather than cooking.
At Smallbatch, we source human-grade ingredients and follow strict food safety protocols for all of our products: frozen raw, Lightly Cooked and freeze-dried, including pathogen testing before products are released.
That said, raw food should always be handled with the same care you'd apply to raw meat in your own kitchen.
