Is raw food safe for households with children or immunocompromised people?Updated a month ago

Raw pet food, like raw meat handled in any kitchen, carries a small but real risk of bacterial contamination. We take many steps to reduce this risk as much as possible and for most healthy households, standard safe handling practices are enough to manage that risk at home. For households with young children or immunocompromised folks who want to take extra care we recommend:

  • Washing hands thoroughly after handling food and feeding bowls
  • Cleaning and sanitizing food prep surfaces, bowls, and utensils after each use
  • Keeping raw pet food separate from human food in the freezer and fridge
  • Postponing pet kisses immediately after eating
  • Disposing of uneaten portions promptly

If someone in your household has a compromised immune system, we'd encourage a conversation with both your physician and your veterinarian to determine what handling protocols make sense for your situation.

We also offer fully cooked (Lightly and Perfectly Cooked foods) and HPP products (freeze-dried sliders, Smallbites, Mealbites and Super Boosters) for added peace of mind.
