Why is the freeze-dried higher fat than the raw foods?Updated a month ago

Freeze-dried foods often appear higher in fat because they contain very little moisture (typically under 5%). With most of the water removed, nutrients like fat become more concentrated, which increases the percentages you see on the label.

Frozen raw diets, on the other hand, contain significantly more moisture. This naturally lowers the percentage of fat when expressed on an as-fed basis, even though the actual amount of fat in the food may be very similar.

When compared on a dry matter basis (with moisture removed), freeze-dried and frozen raw recipes are much more comparable in fat content. This is the most accurate way to evaluate nutrient levels across different food formats.

For pet parents looking for leaner options, our Turkey, Pork, Chicken, and Rabbit (frozen only) recipes tend to be lower in fat across both freeze-dried and frozen raw formats.
