Why does Smallbatch frozen raw food look grey or brown?Updated a month ago

Color change in frozen raw food is normal and doesn't indicate spoilage. Raw meat contains myoglobin — the protein responsible for its red color. When exposed to oxygen (or in a low-oxygen sealed environment), myoglobin oxidizes and can shift to grey or brown tones. This is the same process you see with raw meat from the grocery store.

As long as the food smells fresh and has been kept continuously frozen, color change is purely cosmetic and the food will thaw and serve normally.

If you notice an off smell or unusual texture beyond normal variation, that may indicate a quality or handling concern — reach out to us and we'll help troubleshoot.
